Morning Workshops
5th-8th Be A Star: Film Making & Digital Editing
Full Day: 9am-3:30pm
Using professional equipment and software, as well as freely available home computer programs, students will learn to produce professional-quality video suited for the “big screen.” Students will work with storyboards, learn professional terminology, write, direct, act and edit their own movies in this workshop.
3rd-8th Lego Robotics 9am-12 Noon
Creativity + Teamwork + Imagination = Fun! Using programmable bricks and ROBOLAB software will help us make our LEGO creations move, measure, control and react. Moving beyond modeling cars and wheeled vehicles, we may build a windmill farm that really generates electricity, an automatic birdfeeder, a carousel, insect creatures, solar panels that follow the sun, or any number of surprising fun things. LEGO materials courtesy of our friends at Tufts University CEEO (Center for Engineering Education Outreach).
Limit 12 participants.
5th-8th Frets and Fingers: Guitar 9am-12 Noon CLOSED
The Frets and Fingers workshop will be geared towards guitar and bass guitar players with a focus primarily on playing music as a group. We will have demonstrations and hands-on experiences with different stringed instruments as well (mandolin, banjo, etc).
5th-8th Survival Skills and Orienteering 9am-12 Noon
If you were lost in the woods would you have the skills to survive or find your way home? The key is to be prepared and to have the right skills. This workshop will cover the skills needed to be more confident in the outdoors: learn skills for camping, hiking and climbing, use a compass and map to navigate, build a fire and a shelter, what to eat (or NOT to eat!) and the right basic equipment.
Afternoon Workshops
5th-8th Field Hockey12:30-3:30
Participants will learn some of the ins and outs of field hockey. We will play games, practice skills and run drills. We will focus on strengthening each player’s knowledge of the game, personal growth and confidence. Most importantly though, we will focus on having fun! This workshop is appropriate for both experienced and new field hockey players.
Shin guards, mouth guard and stick required—contact the program to arrange for equipment if you don’t have access to your own.
5th-8th Ultimate Frisbee 12:30-3:30 CLOSED
Come and play the wonderful game of Ultimate Frisbee: a high energy, fast-paced, self-refereed game where good spirit counts more than the scoring of points. In this workshop we will go over most aspects of play including some drills and plays. Be prepared to do a lot of running and a lot of laughing! Be sure to bring cleats, water, funny hats, and a smile.
5th-8th Soccer 12:30-3:30 CLOSED
Learn to play or improve your soccer skills in this goal-minded course. Soccer is one of the most difficult games to perfect, but everyone can have fun trying. Expect to run, dodge, juggle, stretch, kick and learn to be a team player. Proper footwear is a must for this game of foot skills.
Soccer cleats and/or running shoes, shin guards and water bottle are required.
