Morning Workshops

3rd-8th Lego Robotics 9am-12 Noon
Creativity + Teamwork + Imagination = Fun! Using programmable bricks and ROBOLAB software will help us make our LEGO creations move, measure, control and react. Moving beyond modeling cars and wheeled vehicles, we may build a windmill farm that really generates electricity, an automatic birdfeeder, a carousel, insect creatures, solar panels that follow the sun, or any number of surprising fun things. LEGO materials courtesy of our friends at Tufts University CEEO (Center for Engineering Education Outreach).
Limit 12 participants.

3rd & 4th Backyard Naturalist 9am-12 Noon
The “Backyard Naturalist” will be a combination of natural science investigations, explorations of local ecosystems and spending time simply enjoying the natural world. We will explore local ecosystems and the organisms that inhabit them through hands-on science projects, nature drawing and journaling, games and activities.

3rd/4th Ceramics 9am-12 Noon
Learn basic hand-building construction techniques and experiment with design, glaze and tools. Creations will be fired and ready for pick-up after class ends.
(additional materials fee $25)

Afternoon Workshops

3rd/4th Stepping into Space: Rockets, Robots & Beyond 12:30-3:30
Students will design, build and then launch model rockets as an introduction to aero\space engineering and the incredible opportunities that a career in space exploration offers. Students who demonstrate mastery of fundamental design and safety skills may be accelerated into advanced concepts that will incorporate rocketry, robotics and electrical engineering. A highlight of the workshop will be the launch of a large, high-powered model rocket by students, guided by staff. The launch protocol parallels an authentic NASA rocket launch.
(additional materials fee $25)
Limit 12 participants.

3rd/4th Sports Medley 12:30-3:30
The afternoon will be spent learning both competitive and non-competitive sports. The selection of sports may include soccer, touch football, baseball, and basketball. Other activities may include hiking and field games such as croquet and badminton.
Minimum 4 participants.
