Overview
Earthday
From the beginning, Service has been a foundation of the Sant Bani education. The principle of service to all is based on the deeper principle that all mankind is one in spite of apparent differences, and that in helping others you are in a profound way helping your own self. In helping those in the community with financial or physical needs, the goal is that the student’s limited view of self will expand and that the student will come to realize that differences in people are what makes this world rich and varied, that everyone is worthy of respect and compassion, and that in spite of outer differences and circumstances, we are all the same in our essential nature and subject to the same external forces (e.g., age, poverty, disability, illness).
NotesStudents in Kindergarten through Grade Five generally participate in Service projects as a class. Projects are chosen from student suggestions and framed in accordance with their developmental needs and abilities. Many of these projects are ongoing throughout the year, developing close bonds and relationships with those they have served. Grades 6-8 also participate in class Service projects which are designed to meet their desire for action and adventure. Many Service projects are outdoors or hands-on in nature.

High School students are required to engage in community service outside of school time as well as during specified Service Days organized by the school. These days typically happen within the first week of school and on Earth Day. Students are required to complete a minimum of 15 hours of individual Service per semester. They are also required to complete at least one Service Project during their four Projects Periods, for at least 25 hours of service.
